Report PurposeGuide private-label sellers (operations/marketing/product) and engineers (hardware/software/reliability) to improve existing products and define next-generation products

1. Executive Summary

Both products sit at 4.8 / 4.4 on the platform, but taken apart, 95 1-2★ reviews show they fail in completely different places.

Cosori: 19 of 38 negative reviews (50%) point at the same thing — Other issues. “did not use it. too big-heavy for me.”

Chefman: 26 of 57 negative reviews (46%) point at the same thing — Premature failure. “died after 5 months. not happy”

The platform score hides this. At 4.8 / 4.4 vs 4.8 / 4.4, one should spend its budget on Other, the other on Failure — spend it the wrong way and the next generation stays at 4.8 / 4.4.

50%
Cosori complaint concentration
19/38 point at "Other"

Chefman complaint concentration
26/57 point at "Failure"
1. Cosori's complaints concentrate on "Other" (19 reviews, 50%), while Chefman concentrates on "Failure" (26 reviews, 46%)

"Other" shows up in only 21 of Chefman's complaints (37%), and "Failure" in only 5 of Cosori's (13%). The two products fail at different links — the improvement budget should not go to the same place.

2. "Other" is a grumble-level problem, not a return driver

43 of Cosori's 66 3★ reviews mention "Other" (keyword tagging, auxiliary) — the product works, users are just not satisfied. It drags word of mouth but may not directly cause 1-2★; give return-level problems priority.

3. Second pain point: "Build" at 18% of Cosori's complaints

7 complaints point at "Build"; together with the top cause "Other" (50%) they cover 68% of low scores.

Cosori Other + Build 26 3.92 → 4.2 15.1% → 4.8%
Chefman Failure + Other 47 3.28 → 3.92 30.5% → 5.3%
Method: these negative reviews are removed and the rest of the sample is re-averaged (equivalent to re-scoring them at the mean of the remaining sample). This is the theoretical upper bound if the problem is fully solved, not a promise; actual improvement depends on fix rate and new-review velocity. Negative rates use this sample as the base.
Data boundaries (read first, or the numbers above will be misread)
1. The gap between the platform 4.6 rating and the recalculated 3.65 comes from the sampling strategy — the sample over-samples negative and recent reviews, so its complaint density is higher than the platform overall; all percentages use this sample as the base and do not represent the platform-wide negative rate.
2. 85% of the sample falls in the most recent six months (recent-first scraping), so no time-trend conclusions are drawn.
3. 1-2★ reviews are grouped by physical cause via a rule engine (keyword rules, traceable to individual review IDs); keyword tagging of 3★ reviews is auxiliary only and excluded from conclusions.

Typical User Quote (Product A):

i purchased this product in december 2025 after doing extensive research, even using ai tools to help me choose a good option. i was looking for a well-known brand with good performance at a reasonable price. at first, it worked very well. it cooked quickly, the results were good, and it was easy to clean, which is definitely a plus. however, to my surprise, by the end of february it completely stopped working. that means it only lasted a little over two months. in my case, i used it daily (for fries, meats, etc.), so i think it’s important to point this out: if you plan to use it every day, i do not recommend it. it does not seem to be designed for frequent or long-term use.

Typical User Quote (Product A):

i purchased this item on april 13, 2026, and on august 15,2026, it shut off mid use and would not turn on again. i purchased the warranty for extra money, but now all i am getting is alot of run around. sent a video of it not working, picture of the bottom of the machine, picture of your purchase order, most of which have been unsatisfactory. if i were a prospective buyer, i would avoid this machine and more specifically, this company, who does not want to honor the purchased warranty. shame on this company. update: still no resolution. the company claims to have sent new machine - honestly i do not want anything from this company ever again- but the tracking number they sent me shows nothing has shipped. so sleazy

Typical User Quote (Product B):

never used it and it doesn’t work

Typical User Quote (Product B):

i bought this unit on october 2025 and today the unit does not work any longer. trying to see if chefman can help.

8.2 SWOT — Market-Level

▸ Strengths

• Consumers increasingly prioritize PFAS-free and ceramic non-stick coatings for health and safety, which Cosori leverages with its TurboBlaze model.
• The air fryer market continues to grow as consumers seek healthier, faster, and more energy-efficient alternatives to traditional ovens and deep fryers.
• Cosori's strong brand recognition and positive reputation for easy-to-clean, user-friendly designs create customer loyalty and repeat purchases.
• The 6-quart capacity and 9-in-1 versatility appeal to families and busy households looking for multi-functional kitchen appliances.
• Quiet operation and compact footprint are increasingly valued in smaller living spaces, giving Cosori a competitive edge over noisier, bulkier rivals.
• Positive reviews highlight strong customer service and warranty support, which can be further leveraged to differentiate from competitors like Chefman with weaker service records.

▸ Weaknesses

• Durability concerns are significant, with multiple reports of units stopping working after only a few months of daily use, undermining long-term trust.
• The lack of a viewing window and inability to adjust fan speed frustrate users who want more control and visibility during cooking.
• Contradictory information about the coating material (ceramic vs. PTFE) in the product listing and manual creates confusion and erodes consumer confidence.
• Safety complaints about smoke, burning smells, and hot cords raise concerns about fire hazards and product reliability.
• The powerful fan blows light foods around and can suck paper liners into the heating element, creating a fire risk and limiting cooking versatility.
• Missing features like a shake reminder, mute option for beeps, and adjustable temperature ranges below 300°F reduce the product's appeal compared to competitors.

▸ Opportunities

• Growing consumer demand for non-toxic, PFAS-free kitchen appliances presents an opportunity to emphasize and verify ceramic coating claims.
• Competitors like Chefman suffer from even worse durability and customer service issues, allowing Cosori to capture dissatisfied customers by improving reliability and support.
• Adding a viewing window, adjustable fan speed, and a mesh cover over heating elements would directly address top complaints and differentiate the product.
• Expanding smart features and app integration beyond basic timers could attract tech-savvy consumers looking for connected kitchen appliances.
• Offering replacement parts and extended warranty options could reduce frustration over premature failures and build long-term brand loyalty.
• Targeting small households and dorm users with a more compact, quieter model could open a new market segment currently underserved by 6-quart designs.

▸ Threats

• Intense competition from brands like Chefman, Instant Pot, and Philips, many of which offer lower prices or larger capacities, pressures Cosori's market share.
• Recurring reports of units failing within months and poor warranty experiences could lead to negative word-of-mouth and declining Amazon ratings.
• Regulatory scrutiny over PFAS and non-stick coatings may increase compliance costs or force product redesigns if ceramic claims are not fully verified.
• Safety incidents involving smoke, burning smells, and hot cords could trigger product recalls or legal liability, damaging the brand's reputation.
• Rising consumer expectations for smart features and app connectivity may make Cosori's limited smart integration a competitive disadvantage.
• Economic downturns or inflation could reduce consumer spending on premium kitchen appliances, pushing buyers toward cheaper, lower-quality alternatives.
